According to Dr. Promise Sofogah, Vice President of the Fertility Society of Ghana, local data has shown that approximately 70% of infertility cases are due to issues in men. He clarified that infertility can be caused by a variety of factors, affecting either men or women, or both. Infertility is defined as when a couple have been trying to conceive for a maximum of 12 months, or for six months for a woman over 35 years old. Factors such as the woman’s age and egg quality can also play a significant role. Dr. Sofogah also emphasized the need to stop putting the blame for infertility solely on women, as men can also suffer from this issue. He also stressed the importance of implementing regulations for surrogacy to avoid system abuse.
