Team GB swimming legend Ellie Simmonds recently opened up about the dilemma she faces about the prospect of having children. Simmonds, who has achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism, is considering whether to become a mother. The former Paralympic gold medallist has been exploring various options, including using a sperm donor, freezing her eggs, and adoption. Due to her condition, Simmonds also has to consider the likelihood of passing on the gene for dwarfism to any potential children. A clinical geneticist has provided her with information on pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT), a procedure used to identify genetic defects in embryos before they are transferred to the uterus.
