A potential change in the NHS policy may drastically reduce the number of funded IVF treatments available to women in Cheshire. Currently, women in parts of the region are entitled to three rounds of IVF funded by the NHS. However, a review of services provided across Merseyside and Cheshire may reduce this number to just one. The review is part of an effort to standardise fertility treatment policies across the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board (ICB), which currently has 10 separate policies. The proposed change, which is currently open to public consultation, could save the NHS about £1.3 million annually. However, it would also mean that families in Halton may have to spend thousands to fund additional IVF treatments if the first cycle does not result in pregnancy. The public consultation will run until July 15.
