Health Leaders Order Crackdown on Unproven Fertility Treatments

UK health leaders have called for a crackdown on unproven fertility treatments, which are offered by some clinics at high costs. The treatments, often marketed as ‘add-ons’, promise to boost the chances of having a baby but lack robust evidence to support these claims. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has highlighted 27 such treatments, including preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), time-lapse imaging and assisted hatching. Patients are urged to question these treatments and consider the lack of substantial evidence before opting for them. The move aims to protect people seeking help for fertility issues from exploitation and unnecessary financial burden.
