Beth Rodgers, a woman from Belfast, has spoken out about her distressing experience with a ‘concierge’ IVF company in England that went bankrupt. Rodgers, who suffers from Turner syndrome, had paid £4,600 to Apricity, an online company that acts as an intermediary between patients, donors and doctors. However, her hopes were shattered when she discovered via Facebook that the company had gone into liquidation. Rodgers is one of the 52 patients owed money by Apricity, a total of £119,000, which they are unlikely to ever get back. She warns others to verify the legitimacy of the IVF service they use and check if they are approved by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA). Rodgers also highlighted the lack of donor eggs in Northern Ireland and called for a change in the law regarding how different fertility services are provided.
