Cost Hindrance to Half of Women Considering Egg Freezing

In the UK, fertility preservation is becoming increasingly popular, with many women turning to egg freezing as a method of securing their chances of having a child in the future. However, a recent study has revealed that cost is a major obstacle, preventing half of the women considering this procedure from going ahead. According to the study, which surveyed women across the UK, 49% were deterred by the high cost of the procedure, which can reach up to £5,000 excluding storage fees and fertility drugs. Despite the high costs, the demand for egg freezing is increasing, with the number of women opting for the procedure rising by 11% between 2016 and 2017. This trend is expected to continue, with experts predicting a significant increase in the number of women freezing their eggs over the next decade. The high cost, however, remains a significant barrier for many women, raising questions about affordability and accessibility of fertility preservation treatments in the UK.
