A trial has found that genetic tests performed on embryos created using IVF could help women over the age of 35 conceive faster, potentially reducing the emotional stress of repeated IVF cycles by decreasing the risk of unsuccessful implantation and miscarriages. The testing method, known as Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A), is not currently offered on the NHS but involves screening embryos for the correct number of chromosomes before they are implanted in the womb. The trial involved 100 women aged between 35 and 42 undergoing fertility treatment at King’s Fertility. Half of the participants were given PGT-A tests and researchers found that women in this group became pregnant in fewer embryo transfers. The live birth rate was also higher in the PGT-A group.
