The NHS in England has approved a new daily pill for endometriosis. The pill, linzagolix, will be available for women who have had previous treatment for the condition. This is the second at-home treatment for endometriosis after relugolix combination therapy was approved in March. The pill can help manage symptoms of endometriosis such as chronic pain, heavy periods, and extreme tiredness. It will be used in conjunction with ‘add-back’ hormone therapy, which uses low-dose hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to prevent menopause-like symptoms and bone loss. The pill is expected to help over 1,000 women manage their symptoms of endometriosis. The pill was evaluated using a faster process by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and found to have similar benefits at a comparable cost to other treatments, offering more choices for patients.
